Waikiki Beach at Cape Disappointment, Washington & Fort Clatsop National Park, Oregon

Cape Disappointment was named when John Meares was unable to cross the river bar in 1788. This is the location of the mouth of the Columbia river on the Washington side. The beach below where we took these photos from is Waikiki Beach—much smaller than the more famous Waikiki Beach.

On the Oregon side is Fort Clatsop where Louis & Clark wintered in 1806. The cabin in photos below has been rebuilt multiple times due to fire. This is a beautiful area to walk through the woods, the Park Rangers give a wonderful tour & discussion on the Louis & Clark Expedition. Throughout the river cruise the tours were excellent, really bringing the history to life.
