Castles Along the Rhine

The Rhine River from Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland is one of the top spots for river cruising. When you see the photos in the commercials it is mostly along this river. With four countries added to your list of places visited there is such diversity. From the Netherlands, through Germany, a couple ports in the Alsace area of France and then Switzerland. The castles along the mountain tops from Amsterdam down to Koblenz is head spinning. At this point you’ll want to be on the top deck to see it all. From there it is quaint villages like Rüdesheim where it looks like Christmas all year long. Gondola’s of all types let you get high above the river for the view looking back down. Strasbourg, France with it’s eye catching metal signage and timbered buildings is just like a storybook. Basel, Switzerland is lovely town with the river running through the middle of it. A short drive or train ride to Lucerne and you’ve got another great town to visit, don’t miss the Mt. Pilatus Cog Wheel Train & Gondola!

If you haven’t river cruised yet, this is a great place to start. It was supposed to be my first river cruise but that year the water levels didn’t cooperate. We switched trips just days before travel and had a fabulous time. Then came back to this one the next year. When things don’t go as planned, there is often something else wonderful waiting for you. This of course is much less stressful if you’ve used a travel planner, because that’s what we do!
